The Pima Community College football team’s (1-3) rally came up short on Saturday as the Aztecs fell to Mesa Community College 36-20 at the Kino Sports Complex.
The Aztecs fell behind early as they trailed 17-0 after the first quarter and 23-0 at halftime. Mesa scored on its first possession of the third quarter to make it 30-0. Pima got its first points of the game when Deontay Townsend (Mountain Pointe HS) scored on a five-yard run with 6:59 left in the third quarter. He had a 20-yard run earlier on the drive. The Aztecs forced Mesa to punt on their next possession and put together a three-play drive that concluded with Rasheem Parks finding Angel Holmes (Cienega HS) downfield for the 50-yard strike with 5:02 left in the third to make it 30-12.
The Aztecs had two punts, a turnover on downs and a fumble on its next four possessions. Mesa scored a touchdown with 6:02 left to make it 36-12. With time winding down in the fourth, Parks found Tristen Foley for the 25-yard touchdown reception and converted on the two point conversion with 1:09 left.
The Aztecs are off next week and will play at Arizona Western College in Yuma on Saturday, Sept. 27.
