In the race for Legislative District 11 State Representative, Republicans Adam Kwasman and Steve Smith have claimed the two available House seats, defeating Democrat Dave Joseph.

Sen. Al Melvin was elected to a third term in the Arizona Senate Tuesday night, defeating Democrat Jo Holt for a seat in Legislative District 11, which was formerly District 26.

Steve Smith, currently a Senator in the Arizona State Legislature, District 23, is looking to take his political and business experience into the House of Representatives, District 11. 

Candidates for District 11’s Arizona House of Representatives and Senate gathered last night at Pima Community College’s Northwest Campus for a question and answer session, sponsored by the Arizona Clean Elections Commission.

I am running to represent you in the Arizona House because I share your frustration with the actions of our legislature.  They have been ignoring our economic problems while pushing an extreme social agenda. 

My name is Steve Smith and I currently serve in the State Senate, but this year I am running for the State House of Representatives.  I currently live in the City of Maricopa with my wife and now three young children, and my platform is simple. I stand for God, Family, and County.

My name is Adam Kwasman, and I am running for State Representative in LD-11 to put Arizona on the long-term path to prosperity. I was born and raised right here, in town, and I have the knowledge and the experience to bring economic growth, safe streets and great schools to our region. I hold a masters degree in economics, and I work as an economic consultant. The best way to create good paying jobs for Arizona’s families is to foster a business-friendly environment that attracts world-class industries and encourages local companies to increase their investment in our beautiful state. We can only accomplish this if we vote for candidates who believe in our community and our personal freedoms, not bigger and bigger government.  We must have a competitive and jobs-friendly tax and regulatory structure, and we must have State Representatives who will stand up for Arizona against an intrusive federal government. Washington, DC has exceeded its authority under the constitution and exerts undue control over our daily lives. My first act in the State House will be to shield us against ObamaCare’s disastrous dictates on Arizona. 

David Joseph, a 22-year Tucsonan, is bringing his experience in business to the political realm as the sole Democratic candidate for Legislative District 11 House of Representatives.

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild recently announced his endorsement of Jo Holt, Democratic candidate for the AZ State Senate in District 11. Of Holt, Mayor Rothschild said: “Jo Holt is exactly what our state legislature needs. A retired research scientist, Jo knows how to solve problems, stick to a budget and produce results. She is a pragmatist who will represent the people of her district regardless of their political affiliation. ”

The Sun City Oro Valley Government Affairs Committee is holding a forum involving candidates for the Arizona State House and Senate, District 11.

The Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission will host a debate for House of Representative and Senate candidates in Legislative District 9 at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4. The debate will be at the Pima Community College Downtown Campus located at 1255 N. Stone Avenue in Tucson.

While a lot of attention is being paid to the District 8 Congressional race, there is still planning taking place at the state level, especially in District 11.

With the high number of provisional and mail-in ballots last week, the state had more than 600,000 votes to count after the Nov. 6 General Election. In Pima County, election crews spent the last week going through nearly 80,000 ballots.
