The United States Postal Service announced plans today to transition to a new delivery schedule during the week of Aug. 5, 2013 that includes package delivery Monday through Saturday, and mail delivery Monday through Friday. The Postal Service expects to generate cost savings of approximately $2 billion annually, once the plan is fully implemented.

As the United States Postal Service looks at a nearly $20 billion deficit, Saturday delivery has become the target.

Due to the Columbus Day holiday, all federal, county and City of Tucson offices and libraries are closed. There is no mail delivery today.

Recently, the United States Postal Service announced cuts in service that include shutting down the Tucson Mail Processing Center in addition to other regional processing centers and post offices throughout the country. One of the justifications asserted by the United States Postal Service is that the elimination of the Tucson plant will cause only a slight delay for delivery of first class mail in Pima County. The post office claims that the current service level is one business day for delivery of first class mail and that the proposed changes will result in delivery time increasing to two business days.

The online streaming industry is growing and growing every year. Standing at the forefront of this online explosion is Netflix, the well known provider of both online streaming of thousands of different programs ranging from movies, to T.V. shows, and documentaries as well as in home, through the mail deliveries of their content. Netflix began the road to online kingship back in 1997, when the company began as a traditional through the mail provider. By 1999 the company had introduced a monthly subscription policy and now operates on both monthly payment and unlimited online streaming. Over the past decade or so, Netflix has found its way into the homes of many families, college students, and anyone else who enjoys video entertainment. Netflix has been able to stand amongst the forefront of much of the development of the in-home and delivery movie craze, but this rise to the top has not been one without trials and setbacks.

There's something about summer that causes retailers to inundate us with seemingly worthless gift items in the stores. These are things that manufacturers surely recognized as being lost investments, and opted to unload them on retailers at price levels so cheap they felt tempted to gamble by procuring and placing them on their shelves with the notion that we, the mindless consumers, would see the near-giveaway prices and buy them.
