Marana’s proximity to the Tucson and Phoenix metropolitan areas makes it one of the better-positioned communities in the state. With Interstate 10, the Union Pacific Railroad and two airports within the town’s borders and planning area, Marana has become a hub for people wanting to live or do business in Southern Arizona.

Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization of women educators whose purpose is to promote the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Aligned with that purpose, Delta Kappa Gamma/Alpha Chapter will host their first annual “Early Career Educator” appreciation and recognition brunch recognizing 16 outstanding early career educators from the Marana Unified School District. The brunch will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.

This article is in reply to a recent Special to The Explorer written by Jo Holt published in the Feb. 20 issue of the paper. Because Arizona has had two balanced General Fund budgets in a row, our state is ranked number one in the nation for business startups.  We went from 46th to number four in private sector job creation. We are 10th in overall great business climate compared to California which is ranked 50th.  During the past four-year recessionary period, we never let K-12 public school per pupil funding go below $9,000 (federal, state plus local funding). We mortgaged the Senate, House and Executive buildings in order to protect K-12 education funding. The north side of Tucson has four outstanding public school districts in Catalina Foothills, Amphi, Marana and Flowing Wells. We have more charter schools per capita and more school choice than any state. We have open enrollment between public school districts, tuition tax credits and a great home school program.

While not quite the blizzard the National Weather Service predicted Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday's storm has brought snow to the entire Tucson region.

The Southern Arizona DUI Task Force deployed from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., in the Tucson-Pima County area to detect, investigate, and remove those drivers found to be impaired to the slightest degree from the use of alcohol and/or drugs on the public highways and streets of the community.

 As the Arizona Department of Transportation continues to study the feasibility of a passenger rail line between Phoenix and Tucson, the agency will be participating in community events in Marana, Phoenix and Mesa during the month of December to gather input. The public comment period wraps up on Dec. 15.

 A 34-year-old FedEx jet is scheduled to make its final taxi next week to Pima Community College’s Aviation Technology Center, where it will be used to train hundreds of students preparing to enter one of Tucson’s most vibrant industries.

The miracle of flight is something some people use only for travel, others compete with it, but for Oro Valley resident Paul Moffett, he now uses the miracle of flight for joy as he glides above Marana.

The Town of Marana continues to combat the poor economy, first by showing a 2 percent growth in its projected 2012-2013 fiscal year budget, and now by planning future annexations of a county island in the Twin Peaks Interchange and north into Pinal County, to include the Pinal County Airpark.
