Most volleyball teams may say they play for their team and they play to win, but for Marana High School volleyball senior captains Jeff Carranza and Evan Boyack, there’s a lot more to it.

The Marana High School dance team flew to Orlando to compete in the National Dance Championship where it had its best finish in six years by placing fifth in the competition.

Danielle Schroeder, a Mountain View High School teacher, and Diane Swan, a Marana High School teacher, have been selected as finalists for the Arizona Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Circle K Corporation Outstanding High School Faculty Awards Program, which honors outstanding high school teachers in Southern Arizona.

Non-stop basketball took place at the Pusch Ridge Christian Academy and Canyon Del Oro gym this past week as high school girls and boys basketball teams played in the Northwest Desert Classic Tournament.

Cheers erupted throughout Golden Pin Lanes on Friday, Oct. 26, as high school students from the Coronado Area competed in bowling for the Special Olympics.

Starting Friday night, the 2012 high school football season will officially begin with some big matches for local teams. Ironwood Ridge will look to build on last season, Canyon Del Oro will look to carry a late-season run forward, and Marana, Mountain View and Pusch Ridge will look for a more positive outcome.

Last week, students at Twin Peaks Elementary School participated in a school-wide event called, “Healthy School Scavenger Hunt.”

The Mountain View Mountain Lions have yet again another head football coach. The Lions are bringing in coach Clarence “Bam” McRae, their third head coach in three years.

With winter sports coming to the end of the regular season, the state tournament offers one last opportunity for high school student-athletes to make a showing in soccer, basketball, and wrestling.
