On May 16, 2013 at 11:14 p.m., officers from the Marana Police Department responded to a residence located in the 8900 block of N. Palm Brook Drive in response to a 911 call. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male and female in the home. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Last month, Marana voters received a ballot in the mail with just one question on it. But it’s a question that has a huge impact on how our local government serves residents and business owners over the next four years.

In a unanimous vote on Wednesday, the Oro Valley Town Council made official the annexation of 107 acres in the northwest area of Ina and Oracle roads. The three-year process came to a close earlier this month after the town secured more than the required support of 50 percent of the area property owners, representing more than 50 percent of the assessed property valuation.

In a new program introduced by Marana Police Chief Terry Rozema, officers are being recognized for acts of valor and dedication in the line of duty. The first of the award recipients have already been selected. 

According to a report from the Associated Press, U.S. and Mexican law enforcement agencies have recovered two young children taken by non-custodial parents.

Oro Valley could become the second northwest-area town to receive a medical marijuana dispensary in about a month’s time.

Crime rates continue to decline in the Town of Marana, and the Marana Police Department is aiming to keep things that way with the implementation of some new strategic programs and continued public education in 2013. 

Unless an appeal is filed, the Town of Marana will become the latest Community Health Analysis Area in the Tucson region to house a medical marijuana dispensary.

With the Oro Valley Police Department having its School Resource Officer (SRO) program well established and the state’s governor calling to expand state funding, the Marana and Tucson police departments have to consider following suit.

On Jan. 22, a Marana citizen called the Marana Police Department to report suspicious activity.
