The National Republican Congressional Committee today announced that Martha McSally has reached ‘Young Gun’ status, the top tier of the Committee’s four-level ‘Young Gun’ recruitment program. Founded during the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the ‘Young Guns’ program is a Member-driven effort that is the primary method for recruiting strong candidates for both open-seat and challenger races. McSally is running for Arizona’s Second Congressional District.

After Republican Martha McSally led by a small margin since Tuesday, Democrat Ron Barber took the lead in the still undecided Congressional District 2 race.

There are two congressional races still up in the air in Southern Arizona, as no winner as been announced in Congressional District 1 and Congressional District 2.

Jesse Kelly said he will not be running in Congressional District 2, setting up a showdown between newly-elected Ron Barber and political newcomer Martha McSally.

Early results show Jesse Kelly is leading Republican opponents in the Congressional District 8 primary, where candidates are running in the special election to finish former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ term.

With counting done for the day, Rep. Ron Barber is now leading Republican opponent Martha McSally in the race for Congressional District 2.

On Monday, Pima County announced they have finished counting the provisional and early ballots from the Nov. 6 election. The Pima County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a special meeting Nov. 26 at 9 a.m. to certify the election results.

On Tuesday, the Republican who will move forward to face Democrat Ron Barber in June’s General Election will be decided.

Many of the state’s GOP Congressional candidates attended a Tea Party event in Tucson last week, where Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum appeared ahead of Tuesday’s Primary Election.

After a narrow loss to former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in 2010, Jesse Kelly is confident he still has enough pull to defeat the three Republican opponents in the Special Primary Election that is just under a week away.

Residents of Saddlebrooke had the opportunity to hear from the four Republican candidates running in Congressional District 8 when they gathered at the community’s Mountain View Club House on March 14.

With the Primary Election over, many races will start gaining more attention as candidates focus on the Nov. 6 General Election where more than just the U.S. President will be decided.

Congressional Candidate Ron Barber announced Monday that he will run for Congress in the regular 2012 election, in addition to the special election in June in which he is already a candidate in CD8.

With the high number of provisional and mail-in ballots last week, the state had more than 600,000 votes to count after the Nov. 6 General Election. In Pima County, election crews spent the last week going through nearly 80,000 ballots.

Early ballots in the Southern Arizona special election for Congressional District 8 will be sent out this week, with the General Election date just under a month away.

Over the last year, it’s becoming more and more alarming to see how some politicians are “serving constituents” in Congress, and the Arizona Legislature. I am not talking about the bills being passed, even though there are plenty of them that are just ridiculous. No, I am talking about behavior.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed several bills last week, some of them made sense, and others made no sense whatsoever. Of course, these kinds of decisions are becoming common for Brewer, we are sometimes excited by her decision-making, and other times we are left scratching our heads.

The four GOP candidates running April 17 in Arizona Congressional District 8, and later in the new CD2, are solid people. Hopefully, Republicans elsewhere are fielding others as impressive.

Though results are still considered unofficial by the Pima County Elections Department, there are some clear victors in the Aug. 28 primary election. The primary winners now move on to the Nov. 6 General Election.
