We are very happy to share that Session Yoga has chosen HOPE as their charity of the month for June. Every Sunday they hold a Karma yoga class at noon, and will be donating all proceeds to HOPE. Thank you so much Session Yoga!

Pet Adopt-a-thon Month is an initiative developed by North Shore Animal League America that brings together international pet shelter and rescue communities in order to raise awareness about the plight of homeless pets worldwide and to find them loving and permanent homes. The 2012 Pet Adopt-a-thon included nearly 3,000 participating animal shelter and rescue groups in 50 states (plus Puerto Rico and DC) and 10 countries, resulting in more than 30,000 shelter pets being placed in permanent homes.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona will not be accepting cats or kittens at the main shelter as we contain a mild outbreak of the Calicivirus. The Calicivirus is a strain of an upper respiratory infection that affects cats only. Although, this is a mild outbreak, this particular virus requires an aggressive approach of isolating, treating and sanitizing.

Supporters of the Hermitage have been helping our kitties by recycling their aluminum cans with us and now they can recycle even more to help raise funds! The Hermitage has partnered with FundingFactory to recycle used ink & toner cartidges, laptops and small electronics!

Thanks to a generous grant from PetSmart Charities, we’ll be having loads of pit bull-focused fun at our Adore-a-Bull Adoption Party! All bully breed dogs and puppies will have no adoption fee all weekend long, and all our other critters will be half-off. The specials will be honored at all locations, but come to the Main HSSA shelter for the party! The attractions include special gifts bags with cute car magnets for bully breed adopters; free copies of “Saving Audie” for families with children (while supplies last); free kids’ crafts; glitter tattoos, games and prizes for all; and more!

Dog Days in the Desert provides children with in-depth, hands-on education about animal care and the human-animal bond. Our curriculum-based activities require a high level of participation from the enrolled children. Participants will enjoy a variety of classroom activities, creative and artistic exercises; hands-on animal care and character-building lessons that will stimulate their minds and their consciousness.

Pima Animal Care Center is privileged to care for homeless animals in the community, but to be honest, we see too many of them. And just as we do every spring, we'll be seeing litters of kittens and puppies brought to the shelter in need of homes.
