Early one April morning, Estes Elementary School students Julian Rodriguez and William “Blueboy” Estrella were walking to school, just like they do together most days.

Northwest Fire District firefighters responded to 2002 W. Gardner Lane at 0100 after 9-1-1 calls were received reporting a mobile home on fire. Deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department on patrol in the area arrived just before fire crews and attempted to make entry into the mobile home to check for the victim, but were driven back by the heavy smoke and fire.

Northwest Fire District firefighters responded to the Honey baked Ham store located at 7090 N. Oracle road at 0538 after an automatic fire alarm activation was received. The first arriving engine company arrived within 6 minutes to find an audible alarm sounding, flooding from the front door from the automatic sprinkler systems that had been activated and smoke also coming from the entry way. A full alarm was requested which brought three additional engine companies, a ladder company and support units to the scene.

Northwest Fire District firefighters and paramedics were called to the 8200 block of North Equator Loop just before midnight after receiving a 9-1-1 call indicating that a small child had been found in the backyard swimming pool. The home is near Cortaro Farms and Oldfather Roads. The initial 9-1-1 call was received at 11:43pm. Bystanders reported that the child was pulled from the pool where CPR instructions were given from 9-1-1 dispatchers until Northwest Fire crews arrived 4 minutes later.

After a March election that demonstrated overwhelming support for a town-owned wastewater treatment facility, members of the Marana Citizen’s Forum are looking at the next logical step forward for this session’s topic – the development of North Marana.

Northwest Fire District units responded to the AM/PM mini market located at 3825 W. Orange Grove Road near Thornydale just after 1:00pm for a reported car into the building.

The first-ever Marana Main Street Festival was held over the weekend with plenty of entrants in the bed race and plenty of fun, food and sun in the streets. Spearheaded by town staff and local business owner Teri Murphy, the event is designed to familiarize residents with an area of Marana that was once considered downtown before the introduction of Interstate 10 in the 1960s cut through the area’s development plans.

Northwest Fire District crews were called to Interstate 10 at the Ruthrauff overpass just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, after a passer-by noticed a vehicle off the roadway and damage to some of the guardrail in the area.

Members of the Marana Citizens’ Forum have chosen planning for growth in North Marana as their topic this session. The group started meeting last week and will conclude its discussions in early June.

Nov. 8, 2012, was a regular day for both Chuck Boreman and Golder Ranch Fire District Captain Steve Drury.  While they did not know each other, a workout at a local gym would change that forever.  That morning, Boreman experienced a sudden cardiac arrest, brought on by a clogged artery that he did not know he had.  That is when Drury and a group of other off duty first responders came to his aid.

Mountain Vista Fire District has been successful in annexing the Camino de Mañana area in Northwest Pima County and received certification of the annexation from the Pima County Board of Supervisors.

Northwest fire crews responded to a three-car collision at the corner of Ina and Thornydale on Wednesday around 11:46 a.m.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department found 31-year-old Jared Ross inside a home on after a standoff late Thursday night.
