  5. article Disagree with Safier on Medicaid

    Wednesday, April 24, 2013 4:00 am

Even though Dave Safier writes “Say yes to expanding Medicaid”. On the surface this expansion of Medicaid looks like a no-brainer to many. 200,000+ Arizonans become eligible for coverage; 90 percent of the cost is covered by the feds; the remaining 10% paid through a hospital tax, which is supported by the hospitals who will supposedly see a greatly reduced demand for free services.

  6. article Say yes to expanding Medicaid

    Wednesday, April 17, 2013 4:00 am

What if a business planned a move to Arizona that would pour more than a billion dollars into our economy every year while creating 21,000 jobs? Now imagine those jobs would be spread around the state, including areas hardest hit by the economic downturn. And there’s this added bonus: the money would be spent on pollution-free activities, which would actually increase the health and welfare of Arizonans.

  7. article What is the 'Obamacare' Bronze Plan?

    Sunday, April 7, 2013 10:00 pm

The open enrollment period begins for the new health plans created by the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare) on Oct. 1, yet most Americans couldn’t name one of the new health plans let alone describe all the services they cover.

  9. article Thanks Gov. Brewer

    Wednesday, March 27, 2013 4:00 am

Yesterday I was at the State Capitol shadowing Rep. Adam Kwasman. It was great. I sat in on the Commerce Committee meeting. We are trying to bring businesses to Arizona. Texas is not doing Medicaid-Obamacare. So do you think companies will leave the Obamacare State of California and come to Arizona if we also have Medicaid Obamacare (Obrewercare)? Absolutely not. Why would they come to the same situation they want to leave (over taxed) in California. Texas, here they come, or those other States that don’t pass Medicaid Obamacare. Good luck Arizona because they won’t come here. Thanks Gov. Jan Brewer. She will be leaving as governor so she doesn’t care what happens to our State.

  10. article Making heads or tails of health care plan options

    Thursday, November 29, 2012 10:31 am

  14. article Some clarification on Obamacare

    Wednesday, November 7, 2012 4:00 am

I would like to clarify some aspects of “Obamacare”. The Affordable Care Act so far has given citizens many benefits. Young adults can remain on their parent’s policy. A benefit my own daughters could not have even when they wanted to buy private insurance in that critical time between graduating from college and finding a job. The cost was prohibitive for them.

  15. article Jon Kyl - Hidden Burdens

    Wednesday, October 31, 2012 10:15 am

Much attention this political season has been paid to the issues of taxes and spending – and rightfully so. It’s no secret that we face serious challenges with regard to the deficit, our unwieldy tax code, and the looming implementation of ObamaCare. Yet, many of our government’s most far-reaching and intrusive actions have actually originated behind the scenes and out of the public eye: that is, in its issuance of a flood of federal regulations.

  16. article Adam Kwasman looks for LD11 state rep seat

    Wednesday, October 31, 2012 4:00 am

My name is Adam Kwasman, and I am running for State Representative in LD-11 to put Arizona on the long-term path to prosperity. I was born and raised right here, in town, and I have the knowledge and the experience to bring economic growth, safe streets and great schools to our region. I hold a masters degree in economics, and I work as an economic consultant. The best way to create good paying jobs for Arizona’s families is to foster a business-friendly environment that attracts world-class industries and encourages local companies to increase their investment in our beautiful state. We can only accomplish this if we vote for candidates who believe in our community and our personal freedoms, not bigger and bigger government.  We must have a competitive and jobs-friendly tax and regulatory structure, and we must have State Representatives who will stand up for Arizona against an intrusive federal government. Washington, DC has exceeded its authority under the constitution and exerts undue control over our daily lives. My first act in the State House will be to shield us against ObamaCare’s disastrous dictates on Arizona.

  17. article Thoughts on Kirkpatrick ad

    Wednesday, October 31, 2012 4:00 am

I would like to respond to an ad that has been running for a number of weeks. Ann Kirkpatrick has been running the same three sentence add that I as a voter in this district would like to respond to and question. It begins by boldly saying that “it’s time to put aside partisan politics.” Really? Consider that she was first elected in 2008 to a Nancy Pelolsi led US House. There was no bipartisanship attempted when Kirkpatrick voted for the Affordable Care Act(Obamacare). It seems to be hypocritical to want to put aside partisan politics when you would then be in the minority.

  18. article Jon Kyl - Stubborn Things

    Tuesday, October 23, 2012 9:56 am

Our second president, John Adams, stated that “[f]acts are stubborn things.” But during a campaign season, the facts are frequently ignored by candidates engaging in revisionist history – an old trick for those with empty records. For example, consider some recent claims made by President Obama regarding our nation’s economic mess.

  22. article A tale of two job creators

    Monday, October 1, 2012 9:18 am

Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities famously begins: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” Yet, for two Arizona business owners who recently visited my office, it can only be described as the worst of times. Not only are these job creators up against the headwinds of a weak economy, but costly mandates and tax hikes enacted by the president and his allies in Congress are poised to crush their businesses and force many of their employees into the unemployment queue.

  24. article ObamaCare’s Reality: American Families

    Monday, September 24, 2012 8:34 am

While running for president in 2008, then-Senator Obama promised that families making less than $250,000 a year would not see a tax increase as a result of his health-care plan. Many warned that such a promise was simply untenable – that there was no way to do what he proposed without increasing taxes on middle-income Americans. Now, the numbers are in, and they don’t look pretty for already over-taxed families.

  25. article Obama broke promises

    Wednesday, September 19, 2012 8:49 pm

Ican’t even believe that the lady from Saddlebrooke wrote or even thought such nonsense as she wrote in this week’s Explorer.  Even with irrefutable proof of a falsified birth certificate and legitimate questions about where all Obama’s scholarships came from, she still manages to accuse the Republicans of ignoring facts. He has broken every promise he ever made in every arena.  He has broken every program he’s been involved in--for example, lost billions of our money in Solyndra; lost trillions in insisting on Obamacare; lost more billions on the stimulus plan; more billions on practically everything else he promised when he was running for president.  Those are facts.

Baby in stroller Falls Into Train Tracks Mom Jumps In Before Train Barrels In Caught On Camera read more

Baby in stroller Falls Into Train Tracks Mom Jumps In Before Train Barrels In Caught On Camera. A stroller carrying a 14-month-old girl rolled off a slanted train station platform and fell onto the tracks Wednesday, but the girl's mother leaped onto the tracks to rescue her with the help other passengers, transit officials said."What it looks like to us is that the mother became distracted by something, didn't apply the brake on the stroller and the stroller was able to move off the platform and onto the tracks," said Scott Sauer, director of system safety for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. The accident happened Wednesday afternoon at the 56th Street station of the Market-Frankford Line in west Philadelphia. The platform at the station is slanted slightly for drainage purposes, Sauer said.Surveillance video shows a woman on the eastbound platform with the girl in a jogging stroller, which slowly rolls forward and topples over onto the tracks about 5 feet below. What initially appears to be the girl flying out of the stroller apparently was just a towel or a bag. The stroller comes to rest on the outer rail, which carries no charge. The woman is seen jumping down and lifting the girl to a man waiting on the platform. Other passengers ran to help, and one used an emergency call box to alert SEPTA police, who held an incoming train at the preceding stop. The infant was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for treatment of a cut on her forehead. Sauer said during a news conference that watching the video was "gut-wrenching.""With the stroller moving at such a slow rate of speed, you know, you want to call out to someone, `Hey, the stroller's moving! Somebody grab the stroller,'" Sauer said. He said the line is one of SEPTA's busiest, with trains running every six to 10 minutes. SEPTA police said no charges will be filed but the accident serves as a reminder for other riders to lock stroller brakes when waiting on platforms.
