A proposed annexation in the Northwest would bridge the gap between Marana and Oro Valley.

Marana town government is moving forward with annexation of 1,200 acres of land on its west border, within which is a 590-acre parcel being proposed for a privately operated landfill and surrounding buffer by a Tucson company and the property's owners, Herb and John Kai.

One by one last Tuesday, 14 residents west of Marana told the Marana Town Council they oppose an annexation of acreage that may be used for a proposed Marana Regional Landfill.

Pima County's $1.175 million purchase of the 50-acre Cortaro/Hartman property along the Hardy Wash is expected to be concluded by the middle of July, if all goes according to plan.

Mountain Vista Fire District has been successful in annexing the Camino de Mañana area in Northwest Pima County and received certification of the annexation from the Pima County Board of Supervisors.

A public hearing on rezoning of acreage for a landfill on land currently west of Marana has been scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 24.

The Marana Town Council held a public hearing last week on its plan to annex approximately 47 acres of land near the northwest corner of Lambert Lane and Blue Bonnet Road.
