Marana town government is moving forward with
annexation of 1,200 acres of land on its west border, within which
is a 590-acre parcel being proposed for a privately operated
landfill and surrounding buffer by a Tucson company and the
property's owners, Herb and John Kai.

Pima County's $1.175 million purchase of the 50-acre
Cortaro/Hartman property along the Hardy Wash is expected to be
concluded by the middle of July, if all goes according to plan.

Mountain Vista Fire District has been successful in annexing the Camino de Mañana area in Northwest Pima County and received certification of the annexation from the Pima County Board of Supervisors.

Since the December change to the Pima County comprehensive plan,
which downgraded the land-use intensity of several parcels of land
around Thornydale Road, several commercial developers have
submitted plan amendments to have the county change the parcels
back to their original designations for commercial development.

Annexations by Northwest area fire districts are blooming this spring as quickly as desert flowers. The Northwest Fire District has four annexations in progress, Mountain Vista Fire District has one, and Golder Ranch Fire District has the largest annexation of them all.
