The Town of Marana’s election season has officially arrived. Beginning last Thursday, the Pima County Recorder’s Office began to mail out ballots to approximately 20,000 registered voters in town. 

The Town of Marana has hosted a pair of open houses — the most recent last week at Wheeler Taft Abbett Sr. Library on N. Schisler Drive, to help educate the public about the town’s pursuit of a wastewater system.

Marana will hold its first all-ballot-by-mail election beginning with the March 12 primary. The Pima County Recorder’s Office will send ballots by first-class mail to all registered voters beginning Feb. 14. Signatures on all returned ballots are verified by the County Recorder’s staff, which has at least 10 years of experience with verification and is trained by a forensic document examiner every two years.

(NAPSI)—It’s clear all of us who rely on healthy infrastructure to effectively move people and goods need to adjust to life without a strong federal transportation program in place. With the declining purchasing power of the gasoline tax and a prevailing political desire to shrink the role of government, many state and local departments of transportation do not have the means to pay for the simple cost of upkeep, let alone meaningful expansion, of the nation’s congested highways.

While the Town of Oro Valley will retain all current council members until at least June of next year, the Town of Marana will have a busy election season come March, when four incumbents and two challengers will compete to earn a seat on council. 

Earlier today, U.S. Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) delivered his farewell address in the United States Senate Chamber. The speech served as a capstone to Senator Kyl’s 26 years of public service, including four terms (8 years) in the U.S. House of Representatives and three terms (18 years) in the U.S. Senate.

Pinal County, a Democratic county encumbered with a history of corruption, has been viewed by many as primarily a rural void between Maricopa and Pima counties.  

Sen. Al Melvin was elected to a third term in the Arizona Senate Tuesday night, defeating Democrat Jo Holt for a seat in Legislative District 11, which was formerly District 26.

After defeating an aggressive primary opponent in Wil Cardon, Republican Jeff Flake will take on former Surgeon General and Democrat Richard Carmona in the Nov. 6 General Election.

I appreciate the fact that The Explorer has granted me “equal time” to respond to some of the allegations made by my Tea Party opponent Ally Miller in last week’s edition. It is a great honor to be a candidate for the Pima County Board of Supervisors, representing an area where I have lived and served for 30 years. Our constituents will benefit from a civil, intelligent debate about the issues of the day and I am committed to doing my part to bring that about.

The ballots for the November election have hit voters’ mailboxes, so it’s endorsement time. I don’t have enough space to cover the entire ballot in any detail, so I’m focusing on one race -- Pima County Supervisor, District One -- and one initiative -- Prop 204. Then I’ll do a quick run through other candidates on the ballot.
