I want to thank Lois Berkowitz on her wonderful information on the 10 percent gas tax, but I want to make a clarification. I was at that Board of Supervisor meeting and it was not Chuck Huckelberry who passed the resolution to put it before the Governor, but it was the four supervisors on the board who passed it. Richard Elias, Sharon Bronson, Ray Carroll and Ramon Valdez. The only one of the board members who spoke against it and also voted against it was Supervisor Ally Miller.

On Friday, Nov. 9, at 8:19 p.m. a Pinal County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a 2004 Oldsmobile minivan westbound on Interstate-10 near milepost 216 for several traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle was later identified per an Arizona Identification Card and Permanent Resident Alien Card as Tucson resident Maria Bustamante, 33.

With the high number of provisional and mail-in ballots last week, the state had more than 600,000 votes to count after the Nov. 6 General Election. In Pima County, election crews spent the last week going through nearly 80,000 ballots.

Pima County’s recommended budget for fiscal year 2011/12
contains a State Assistance Tax equal to cost shifts imposed by the
Arizona Legislature on the County to balance the State budget. The
legislature, over each of the last three years, has shifted State
costs to counties. We have absorbed prior cost shifts, but these
shifts have consequences in reduced services for the public, such
as fewer pothole repairs and less maintenance of our parks. We
cannot continue to absorb State cost shifts without putting our own
budget in jeopardy.
