In what became a heated race for the Arizona Senate, Jeff Flake will replace Jon Kyl as the state’s new senator after defeating former Surgeon General and Democrat Richard Carmona.

After defeating an aggressive primary opponent in Wil Cardon, Republican Jeff Flake will take on former Surgeon General and Democrat Richard Carmona in the Nov. 6 General Election.

Jay Knapp, the first Oro Valley Citizen of the Year as named by the Rotary Club of Oro Valley, was brought near tears by his recognition Saturday night.

While it's clear that Republican Jeff Flake will move on to face Democrat Richard Carmona, the race for Pima County Board of Supervisor, District 1 is still close with Republican Ally Miller currently leading her primary opponents.

Jay Knapp of Sun City Vistoso is being recognized as the Oro Valley Rotary Club's Citizen of the Year.

Though results are still considered unofficial by the Pima County Elections Department, there are some clear victors in the Aug. 28 primary election. The primary winners now move on to the Nov. 6 General Election.

David Joseph, a 22-year Tucsonan, is bringing his experience in business to the political realm as the sole Democratic candidate for Legislative District 11 House of Representatives.

Jeff Flake today received the endorsement of two leading business advocacy organizations with the United States Chamber of Commerce and the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry announcing their support for Jeff Flake in the general election race for U.S. Senate.

With the Primary Election over, many races will start gaining more attention as candidates focus on the Nov. 6 General Election where more than just the U.S. President will be decided.

If cheers from the crowd were an indicator, both candidates fared equally in the first debate in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District race.

With the high number of provisional and mail-in ballots last week, the state had more than 600,000 votes to count after the Nov. 6 General Election. In Pima County, election crews spent the last week going through nearly 80,000 ballots.
