    On Dec. 8, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint at Palo Verde Road and Aviation Parkway as part of the holiday season DUI enforcement efforts. At approximately 10:30 p.m., a white pickup truck came through the checkpoint and deputies immediately noticed a large amount of blood on the driver’s side door. Inside the vehicle were the female driver, later identified as 42-year-old Rebecca M. Gomez, the 57-year-old male passenger and two female teenagers, none of whom was wearing a seatbelt.

  17. OVPD gets new grant-funded motorcycle

    Oro Valley Police Department recently purchased a new BMW R1200-RT-P police motorcycle using money it received from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety. It will play a proactive role in achieving the department's mission to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury collisions through highly visible, proactive traffic enforcement. That includes DUI and fatal collision investigations, school bus stop sign and speed violation enforcement, and occupant protection/seatbelt violation enforcement. In addition, the new motorcycle will enable police to rotate aging equipment at the end of its service life and reduce operating costs associated with the motor unit.
