On Sunday, Sept. 5, at about 3:30 a.m., an Oro Valley officer
inside the police substation at Oracle and Magee roads heard a
female calling out for help outside. When the officer went outside,
he saw a Circle K employee yelling. The officer jumped over the
wall and was told by the employee that there was a male suspect in
the store behind the cash register. The officer looked inside and
saw a man placing multiple cartons of cigarettes inside a trash
can. After notifying communications, the officer went inside the
store with a Taser in hand and told the suspect to put the trash
can down. The suspect said, "OK, you got me. I am not going to run
or fight," according to police reports. The suspect was handcuffed
and the officer did a wants and warrants check. Communications told
the officer the suspect had an extraditable national marshal's
warrant. The suspect was arrested for shoplifting. In the trashcan,
police found 31 cartons of cigarettes valued at $2,197.90.

On Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m., members of the Oro
Valley Police Community Action Team pulled over a car near Magee
and Oracle roads after noticing some suspicious activity. C.A.T.
squad members saw four people going in and out of business and then
returning to their vehicles. After the men left the area, police
stopped the vehicle. During the stop, one of the passengers said he
didn't have any identification. When he was asked to step out of
the vehicle, the man attempted to run away after police noticed a
wallet on his car seat. The subject tried to run across Oracle Road
but was hit by a vehicle, after which he started to run toward
officers. The officers then shot the man with a Taser. The man said
he ran because he knew he was going back to prison. A search of the
car turned up a pistol under the seat where the subject was
sitting, a mask, gloves and a meth pipe. The man was taken to
University Medical Center and found to have a felony warrant from
the Department of Corrections. Two of the other subjects had
non-extraditable warrants and all three were released. The man who
ran was booked on the felony warrant along with a weapons
violation. An Oro Valley officer received minor injuries to the
face during the incident.
