A distinctive spectacle exists within the music realm that recently graced the Rialto Theater stage here in Tucson. It is one that is unmatched in its ability to unify the youthful and the aged alike, bringing the Rialto’s varied occupants together by the collective power of rhythm, lyric, syncopation, and harmony. This artistic force has captivated listeners across generations and created an intersecting line between adolescents and geriatrics. It is a force that goes by the whimsical name of Yo La Tengo.

Throughout his time at Canyon Del Oro High School and in working toward his degree from the University of Arizona, Clark Jewett’s life has slowly been preparing him for this month. On May 17 and 18, his musical will be performed at Fox Theatre.

But despite the current technological prowess that is obtainable to all filmmakers with money to burn, we have reached an age where the standard gimmicks may no longer be sufficient for the 21st century viewer.

On May 3rd and 4th Legacy Traditional School Northwest Tucson (LTSNW) Performing Arts students will be putting on Seussical Jr. the musical. This will mark the second production for LTSNW students.

As news continued to come out Monday regarding the two explosions that took place at the 116th Boston Marathon, I, like many, hoped that it was a freak accident. While my heart was already going out to all those impacted, I held some hope that some building nearby had a problem, and while tragic, would answer the question of why.

He offers no make believe worlds, no climactic battles of good and evil, no metaphorical calls to action, no romantic flickers of passion, no moments of inspiration, no heroes, no villains, no damsels, or vixens. Instead, the award-winning author of “Clybourne Park” has elected to present his audience with an unflattering reflection from a mirror. His play brings humanity face to face with its own imperfect image, and forces it to observe the ugly facts of life. 

An increasingly popular fine art show has found a fitting home in one of Tucson's most elegant and timeless places.

The Ironwood Ridge High School actors took on the challenging task of performing the Disney musical “Beauty and the Beast” this spring.  The challenges they had to contend with were numerous with extensive costuming, choreography, complex scenery, and musical ranges. Opening night put all those challenges to rest, and their efforts in all these categories were nothing short of stellar.
