Northwest Fire District’s governing board approved a contract for Michael J. Brandt to become its fire chief, dropping the “interim” from his current title when the two-year contract kicks in on May 28.

Fifth graders all around the state of Arizona were able to participate in the eighth annual Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Walk On Kids Cooking Challenge, which encourages kids to make recipes that are nutritious, delicious and can be put in a lunchbox to take to school.

Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization of women educators whose purpose is to promote the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Aligned with that purpose, Delta Kappa Gamma/Alpha Chapter will host their first annual “Early Career Educator” appreciation and recognition brunch recognizing 16 outstanding early career educators from the Marana Unified School District. The brunch will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.

Train tracks at Tangerine Road are closing the first weekend in January for improvements.

Earlier this month, two schools within the Marana Unified School District and one within the Amphitheater School District were recognized by the National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) as 2012 NCEA Arizona higher Performing Schools.

Train tracks at Cortaro Road will be closed for 12 hours next weekend for construction.

Ames Construction Inc. will be closing the train track crossing at Cortaro Road to perform construction for Union Pacific Railroad.

Northwest firefighters were called to the area of Twin Peaks Road and Oasis, just east of Interstate 10 at 5:21 a.m. Thursday morning this morning after several 9-1-1 calls were received about a truck and trailer on fire.

Teams of student leaders from a Marana intermediate school and six Marana elementary schools will present their final project during the conclusion of the Marana Youth Leadership Summit on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 9:30 a.m. at Twin Peaks Elementary School, 7995 W. Twin Peaks Rd, Tucson 85741.  

Just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, Northwest Fire District, along with the Picture Rocks Fire District responded to the area of Silverbell and Twin Peak Roads after several 911 calls reported a vehicle had left the roadway and rolled several times.

Two teachers within the Marana Unified School District were honored on Oct. 2 during the nationwide “A Day Made Better” event.

Marana General Manager of Public Services Barbara Johnso retired on July 1, ending a 45-year career. For more than five years, Johnson has been responsible for making large and small projects a reality in Marana.
