    The Town of Marana’s election season has officially arrived. Beginning last Thursday, the Pima County Recorder’s Office began to mail out ballots to approximately 20,000 registered voters in town.

    Marana will hold its first all-ballot-by-mail election beginning with the March 12 primary. The Pima County Recorder’s Office will send ballots by first-class mail to all registered voters beginning Feb. 14. Signatures on all returned ballots are verified by the County Recorder’s staff, which has at least 10 years of experience with verification and is trained by a forensic document examiner every two years.

This mailing process to notify all voters will take a little over a week to complete since more than 465,000 cards are being mailed. Ms. Rodriguez anticipates that all cards will be mailed by July 3.

    As a member of the Arizona House of Representatives, I would like to express my thoughts on the Independent Redistricting Commission.  For those who do not know, Prop 106 was a voter approved ballot initiative that was passed in 1998 putting the redistricting authority into the hands of an independent commission.  The heart of the initiative was to create an independent body that would act in a non-partisan nature.
