(StatePoint) You may remember your parents telling you to turn off the television and go outside or read a book. But these days, it’s harder than ever to separate kids from media devices, especially as their options become more mobile.

(BPT) - Over the past year, Paula Deen and her sons, Bobby and Jamie, have partnered with Novo Nordisk on Diabetes in a New Light(R), a national initiative to help adults find simple ways to manage everyday challenges associated with type 2 diabetes. Through Diabetes in a New Light(R), they have developed delicious diabetes-friendly recipes and visited cities across the country to meet with those with type 2 diabetes. Below, Paula offers an inside look into the changes she’s been making and how her dedication to diabetes management has yielded big results.

This weekend November 10th & 11th is the La Encantada Fine Art Festival featuring 45 fine art exhibitors as well as performing arts presentations from local art, music and theatre groups.

Four award-winning artists working in several disciplines will be part of the Fall Open Studios Tour, sponsored by the Tucson Pima Arts Council, on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10 and  Nov. 11.

Local Tucsonan Kath Macaulay tells the people in her workshop that they don’t need a giant easel and copious amounts of paint to be an artist. She simply states that they need a sketchpad, a small watercolor paint kit, a pen, and an open mind.

The 16th Annual Oro Valley Fall Arts in the Park, a music and fine art festival, is taking place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Oro Valley Marketplace, on the southwest corner of Oracle and Tangerine roads.
