    Western National Parks Association, the Oro Valley-based nonprofit, is celebrating the release of its new book, “Frequently Asked Questions About Bats” by Rose Houk. A book-signing event and panel discussions featuring bat experts is set for Saturday, July 16. The book provides an insightful look at these mysterious and fascinating flying mammals and features detailed photographs and informative illustrations.

    James E. Cook is the new executive director/CEO of Western National Parks Association (WNPA), an Oro Valley-based nonprofit. Founded in 1938, the WNPA supports education, interpretation and research at 66 national parks in 12 western states.

The craft and design of the thin-walled pottery started in the village of Mata Ortiz, in northern Chihuahua, Mexico and has gained popularity over the past 30 years.     Randy Metcalf/The Explorer, Mitch Downey and her husband Rodger both received Special Achievement Awards at the Western National Park Association's annual awards ceremony in December. Both have retired after many year in managerial positions at the WNPA.
